Language Learning is Frustrating - Am I Making Progress? LT shares that the overall understanding of different concepts in the language is a good indicator of the progress being made within the language.
Knowing where we stand in language learning, it's at times frustrating.
We feel like we're doing a lot of studying. We're working hard to try to learn vocabulary which doesn't stick. Uh.. A week later, two weeks later, a month later, we're forgetting the things that we've been studying.
I know it's frustrating, but my element of language progress... How do I measure my own progress ?
It's really not those vocabulary words that I learn and forget. It's really the overall understanding of context of things.
For example, like in books, I'm comfortable reading through sentences in the language, where before I couldn't even understand a sentence. Or listening to the radio ... Now I'm picking out blocks of things that I understand, and it's exciting. Or watching TV. Wow. I understand this much, and before I couldn't understand anything.
And that's really the measure I use in learning where I am with my language learning progress.
